Tribute to Jacques-Yves Cousteau:

‎"The reason I love the sea I cannot explain — it’s physical. When you dive you begin to feel like an angel. It’s a liberation of your weight" ~ Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

Biography: (Beautiful words by Pascale Zurbuchen).

Jacques-Yves Cousteau, commonly known in English as Jacques Cousteau , was a French naval officer, explorer, oceanographer, author, photographer, environmentalist and inventor of diving devices.

Born June 11, 1910 in Saint André de Cubzac, a small town in South West France, he co-developed the aqua-lung, pioneered marine conservation and was a member of the Académie Française.

Instantly recognizable by his red cap and gaunt silhouette, visionary, he was also known as « le Commandant Cousteau ». Aboard his oceanographic vessel , the converted minesweeper Calypso, he explored, studied and filmed the sea and all forms of life in water. Cousteau had the ability to captivate audiences with the unknown ocean, inspired future generations of ocean explorers and encouraged people to care about the ocean.

Jacques Cousteau died June 25, 1997 in Paris. He inspired millions to look at the planet as they never had before.
